Given that France is under another lockdown, restricted to a 10 kms radius etc, it is concentrating the mind even more to stay à la maison, or at least very much close at home. So that also means searching out subjects that will amuse/interest in the hope that painting will provide an amusement/interest etc etc.

Have just seen a reference to David Hockney’s exhibition in Paris- based on his fascination with trees, country gardens, & his work done at his home in Normandy. Given that I too am concentrating on painting trees, it is a lovely insight into the pleasure of painting what is just outside in the garden. Having sold my ‘autumn trees’ to a friend, it has inspired me to carry on with a now fading mimosa tree in the garden, & will carry on to a cherry tree & an olive tree to follow that theme. Not that I can mimic the famous Hockney but nice to know he is happily painting the same subjects, just much further north!
