Just a short blog this time as I’ve decided to take a two week break from easyart. Given that our wonderful host Anne is probably trying to go away for a week, it seems timely, & will give me some valuable extra thinking space to decide on the next few paintings, & where we go with the easyart sessions. Reflection time is always sensible, & given the covid restrictions still in place it isn’t easy to think about how to arrange socially distanced painters once we have to come indoors……I’ve been getting requests to join the group , & now need to create a sort of waiting list as I don’t think people realise how much time & attention each student needs….& it is supposed to be fun for everyone – including me!

Anyway, as ever, the painters both in situ & on zoom get their heads down to tackle a new medium of using a pen & wash. We were following a simple scene of a beach, with some distinctive black & white trees to show off the pen/ink skills. Not easy, as I found when doing a practice run the day before- but good fun to see the contrast with the pen & the gentle water colours. I had also tried a practice paper with a soluble pen, where you can get some interesting effects with letting the water just gently run- plus some judicious dabs with kitchen paper or tissue to control the flow- all very absorbing & as ever the time flies by.

So there we are for two weeks- the next date is booked for 2nd October- although I’ll try & find an easy to follow demo on YouTube for those who want to keep painting!
