Unfortunately a very short blog this time, as an overnight tummy upset caused me to cancel the session on Friday morning. However I had already painted my own version the day before, so had been able to send some tips on email to the few hardy souls who were carrying on anyway at home by themselves :-)

As I thought, sketching in the buildings had caused a bit of a furrowed brow, & the need to erase some lines here & there, but if you just sketch in lightly then it is fairly easy to then ‘fill in’ the outlines of buildings & roofs with house type colours. As always a bit of dabbing & dropping in a bit of dark, melded with water can give the impression of old stone, with the ubiquitous grey indicating windows, doors, shadows. Once the buildings are done then it frees up the brush for the random greenery around the church & the village, with the yellow/earth colour for fields in front. Once again this painting was done en plain air sitting across from the left of the village, many years ago. As Tourtour is known for its splendid views from the other side of the church, this was a hidden view from another angle. One of these days we’ll hopefully go up & paint that more popular view when the tourists have gone & it is safe to travel about…..
